HURRICANE — A driver was killed when a car drove off a 100-foot cliff Thursday evening.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. near the Hurricane-La Verkin bridge, said Washington County Undersheriff Jake Adams.

The driver appeared to be traveling north on state Route 9 toward La Verkin when the vehicle went off the east side of the highway and over the cliff, police said.

Investigators were still on scene late Thursday and were unable to immediately identify the victim, Adams said. Detectives initially said a female driver was killed in the crash, but Adams said he could not confirm that.
