A big accident on I-15 in North Salt Lake early this morning caused some headaches for commuters.

About 6:30 a.m., a flatbed trailer being hauled by a semitrailer broke free, said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Cameron Roden.

"The driver didn't secure the trailer with a pin. But (the trailer) shouldn't have come off anyway," he said.

The runaway trailer hit the cement barrier in the median and flipped over, blocking all four southbound lanes. Sparks from the accident also started a small grass fire off the side of the road.

Fortunately, no vehicles were hit and no one was injured, Roden said.

The trailer was pushed far enough to the side of the road after 25 minutes that three lanes of traffic were opened. All lanes of the freeway were completely reopened about 40 minutes after the accident, he said.
