SARATOGA SPRINGS — Burgeoning growth in two northern Utah County towns is leading to the construction of new schools.

In addition to Hidden Hollow Elementary in Eagle Mountain, which opened last week, West Lake High School in Saratoga Springs west of Redwood Road opens a year from now. In fall 2010 a new, as yet unnamed junior high next to West Lake High also opens.

The new Hidden Hollow school was built for 850 students and 55 faculty and staff, Alpine School District spokeswoman Rhonda Bromley said.

Typically junior high school students include grades seven through nine, but next fall some 460 ninth-grade students from Willow Creek Middle School in the West Lake boundaries are to attend classes at West Lake High for a year. Then when the new Saratoga Springs Junior High opens they will go there. "That will leave Willow Creek with about 1,800 students," she said. The western boundary of West Lake is the Jordan River, which also will likely also be the boundary for the new junior high. However, the boundary for that school won't be set until this fall, she said. The Alpine School District will likely name the new junior high principal in January, who in turn is to select a committee to name the school and its mascot, Bromley said.
