Two small earthquakes struck in quick succession in a remote area of southern Utah on Thursday.

The first, a magnitude 2.5 earthquake hit around 1:25 p.m. The second, a magnitude 3.3, happened about a minute later.

The epicenter was about 36 miles northeast of Kanab.

Officials at the University of Utah Seismograph Stations said there were no immediate reports of damage.

Geologists say earthquakes in that area are not unusual.
