In choosing a preschool, here are a few suggestions to consider in your selection.

• Look for play-based programs and make sure the children have enough space to play, says Julie Pew at the Family Enrichment Center in Kaysville.

• Make sure there are activities that parents can do at home that will connect with what the children do at school, according to Kindercare.com.

• Check for a low teacher-student ratio, such as 1 to 3, according to the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies.

• Scout the preschool for students' artwork at the children's level in hallways and in the room, according to Dr. Steven Barnett, the director of the National Institute for Early Education Research.

"Would you be able to pick out your child's artwork? If all the pictures look the same, then your child will learn to make a bunny just like everyone else's. That's not the goal," Parents.com author Beth Kanter said.

I'm not aware of any preschool (I'm assuming age three and four)…
