Woman, 73, hit by truck
The woman was attempting to cross the road at the intersection of University Avenue and Paul Ream Avenue in Provo about 1:45 p.m. on Saturday.
A 21-year-old man's truck was stopped at a light on Paul Ream Ave., and was preparing to turn right to head south on University Avenue, said Provo Police Sgt. Aaron Mullins.
The male had been looking left toward traffic and when it was clear, turned to the right and accelerated, Mullins said.
As he looked right he noticed the elderly female who had just stepped into the crosswalk, and he hit his brakes.
She was hit at low speed and pushed down, hitting her head, Mullins said.
She was taken via ambulance to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center
in critical condition with head trauma, Mullins said.
The case is under investigation to determine what the different light signals were at the time of the accident, Mullins said.
