PROVO — Two men are in jail after they pummeled a man in a Provo park and left him bleeding and unconscious, police say.

Police said a resident was driving by Pioneer Park, 500 W. Center, Friday night when they heard yelling and screaming and saw a man being thrown to the ground, according to a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court.

They called police, who arrived to find one man attacking another man. Officers separated the two men and saw that the victim was bleeding from the nose and forehead and was unconscious. He was taken to the hospital and later determined to have a broken nose, several broken bones in his face and possibly broken ribs, according to the affidavit.

Police arrested the first man at the scene, who smelled strongly of alcohol and said he had consumed several beers, according to the affidavit. After police talked with the victim at the hospital, he told them there was a second attacker who had also punched him in the face.

Officers arrested a second man several hours later, who admitted to consuming several shots of vodka, the affidavit states.

Both men were booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault, public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
