Kristin Chenoweth will perform at BYU's de Jong Concert Hall on May 19-20.

PROVO — Someone known for being a little bit wicked is about to step on Brigham Young University's campus.

Tony Award-winner Kristin Chenoweth, known for originating the role of Glinda in Broadway’s “Wicked,” will close BYU’s 2016-2017 Bravo! season with sold-out performances Friday and Saturday, May 19-20.

Although she boasts an impressive musical theater résumé, with recent leading roles in “Promises, Promises” and “On the Twentieth Century,” Chenoweth has also found success on the big and small screens. She had recurring roles on “The West Wing” and “Glee” and was part of the “Hairspray Live!” cast. In 2009, she won an Emmy for her role as Olive Snook in “Pushing Daisies.” Chenoweth has also had supporting roles in "RV," "Four Christmases" and "Bewitched."

“She crosses over from stage to TV to film very easily. There aren’t a lot of people who so fluidly migrate as successfully as she does,” said Jeff Martin, presenter of the Bravo! series. “She’s so talented and engaging; this concert is a great way to finish our season.”

During the last few years, BYU has brought other notable Broadway performers to campus for concerts and for master classes, including Audra McDonald, Sutton Foster, Leslie Odom Jr. and Lea Salonga.

Through visits to New York City and meeting with managers and agents, Martin is able to arrange for locals to get a taste of Broadway without jumping on an airplane.

“In Utah we have an affinity and an affection for Broadway and musical theater,” he said. “It’s really satisfying to bring these performers here.”

Chenoweth has spent much of her time this year touring and promoting her new album “The Art of Elegance” and will perform songs from it at the BYU concert along with other tunes that helped make her one of Broadway’s darlings.

“The audience will enjoy hearing her sing a lot of these classic songs and experiencing her personality live,” Martin said. “She is warm, funny and friendly, and people will enjoy feeling so close to her during the concert.”
